Margaret Mihm

Margaret Mihm, 79, of St. Lucas, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., following a short illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m., at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, with the Rev. Marvin Salz officiating.

Lorraine Kuennen and Jeannette Dietzenbach were organists. Congregational hymns were "Be Not Afraid," "Prayer of St. Francis," "One Bread, One Body" and "Peace is Flowing Like a River."

Soloist Don DiLaura sang "Angels Among Us," "On Eagle's Wings" and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee." Mass servers were Paul Galligan and Lucas Thornton. Lector was Wendy Mihm Herold. Offertory gift bearers were Taisha Thornton, Ashley Galligan, Erin Cayton and Nicole Galligan.

Casket bearers were Gary Jo Mihm, Scott Mihm, Jeremy Pesek, Jamey Pesek, Joshua Pesek and Adam Thornton.

Burial was at the church cemetery. The Chekal Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson handled arrangements.

Margaret Mae (Mitchell) Mihm was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of Alfred and Edna (Bertges) Mitchell. She moved with her family to St. Lucas when she was age one.

She attended grade school at St. Luke's and 11th and 12th grades in Waucoma, graduating in 1937. Margaret then attended the State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls for two more years, followed by Cosmetology School in Waterloo.

Margaret married Marinus Mihm June 17, 1943, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas.

She owned and managed beauty shops in OSSIAN, Cresco, DECORAH and St. Lucas. She then worked at Elaine's One Size Up in DECORAH, before retiring in the mid-1980s.

Margaret was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and the Rosary Society, Catholic Order of the Foresters, and Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include her husband, Marinus Mihm of St. Lucas; two sons, Gary and Janice Mihm of FORT ATKINSON, and Bill Mihm of FORT ATKINSON; and four daughters, Deb and Stephen Pesek of New Hampton, Tammy and Al Thornton of DECORAH, Jolene and Bill Galligan of Mason City, and Jacque and Jim Cayton of Kalona.

There are 15 grandchildren, Gary Jo Mihm, Scott (Missy) Mihm, Wendy Mihm Herold (Alvin), Jeremy, Jamey and Joshua Pesek, Adam, Lucas and Taisha Thornton, Paul, Ashley and Nicole Galligan, and Erin, Courtney and Emily Cayton; and three great grandchildren, Brogan and Hannah Mihm, and Mitchell Herold.

Also surviving are two brothers, Bernard and Bonnie Mitchell of Bella Vista, Ark., and Donald and Mary Ann Mitchell of Louisville, Ky.; and two sisters, Marion and Paul Thomas, of West Des Moines, and Delores and Don Blong of St. Lucas.

Margaret Mihm was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Alfred Mitchell.
