Marie Mackenburg

Marie Mackenburg, 81, of Cresco, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001 at her home.

Funeral services were at noon, Tuesday, Jan. 30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco, with Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiating.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Conway Funeral Home of Cresco handling arrangements.

Marie Mackenburg was born Feb. 4, 1919 in Cresco, the daughter of Henry and Thekla (Holthaus) Kapler.

She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cresco. She attended St. Joseph's School and graduated from Assumption High School.

On July 5, 1947 she was united in marriage to Theron Mackenburg in Cresco.

She was a lifetime resident of Cresco, a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Church and its Altar and Rosary Societies, and belonged to a study club.

Marie Mackenburg liked to do embroidery, garden, and was an excellent cook. She loved baking cookies and breads.

She was afflicted with MS very early in marriage, but continued to do many of the things she enjoyed throughout her life, along with raising three daughters.

Surviving Marie Mackenburg are her three daughters, Jennifer and Don McDuff of Fort Collins, Colo.; Theresa and David Aga of RIDGEWAY; and Paula and Boyd Keehner of Luana, Iowa; four grandchildren: Beth, Ben and Andrea Aga and Michael McDuff; one brother, Herman (Ike) Kapler of Cresco; and three sisters, Corrine Moudry of Protivin; Virginia Powers of Des Moines; and Annette Polashek of Cresco.

Marie Mackenburg was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theron Mackenburg in 1986; two brothers, Leonard Kapler, in infancy and Robert Kapler as a child.
