Grace Anderson

Grace M. Anderson, 86, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital Marshfield, Wis.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 13, at 10:30 a.m., at the Assumption Worship Center in Cresco, with the Rev. Henry Charipar officiating.

Marilyn Novak was the organist. Orvald Herold was the cantor. Laura Langreck was the reader. Gifts were presented by Teresa Vachta and Helen Anderson. Eucharistic minister was Geraldine Schlindwein.

Casket bearers were Daryl Schmitt, George Vachta, Art Laabs, Paul Schlindwein II, Tom Vachta and Harold Berge.

Interment was at the Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. The Conway Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Grace Marie (Haugen) Anderson was born Oct. 13, 1913, in Decorah, the daughter of Paul and Isabelle (Evanson) Haugen. She graduated from Decorah High School.

On Feb. 9, 1932, she was united in marriage with Garnet Anderson at the Assumption Church in Cresco. When Garnet retired in 1973, they moved to Cresco, where Grace lived until Garnet's death in 1995.

In December of 1999, Grace moved to Edgar, Wis., to be near her daughter. She was to take care of herself and live in an assisted living facility. She entered St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield 17 days before her death.

Grace was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and the Assumption Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing cards and going to visit her
daughters in Wisconsin. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and enjoyed seeing them at every opportunity.

Survivors include her daughters Rosemary and Walter Schmitt of Edgar, Wis., and Geraldine Schlindwein of Oshkosh, Wis.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Grace Anderson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Garnet, who died in 1995; three brothers, Clarence, Leonard and Edgar Haugen; and two sisters, Ella Stiyer and Jeanette Sande.
