George Klimesh

George Klimesh, 72, of Cresco, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at his home.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. Joseph's Worship Center with inurnment in Calvary Cemetery, both in Cresco. The Rev. Henry W. Charipar presided.

Honorary bearers were grandchildren Melissa and Tim Knoll; Lacey and Lenny Mclntire; Jessica, David, Amanda, Colin, Hillary, Travis, Liza, Alston and Zachary Klimesh; and Andrew, Adam, Scotti Lynn and Matthew Schon.

The Conway Funeral Home handled arrangements.

George Gerald Klimesh was born May 5, 1928, between Protivin and Spillville, on the Winneshiek County farm of his parents, George and Augusta (Houdek) Klimesh. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville.

He attended the rural school and helped his father with the farming. Then he worked in Spillvflle in the plumbing and hardware store.

George entered the United States Air Force Sept. 6, 1950, and served two years overseas. He met and later married Alice Waterfield July 13, 1953, in West Suffolk, England. He was discharged Aug. 25, 1954, and they returned to the United States.

When he returned to Iowa, he worked in plumbing and hardware for about seven years and then farmed for about seven years.

George spent most of his working years driving truck for various companies and hauling many kinds of items.

In his younger years, George liked doing things that most young men enjoyed. As he grew older, he enjoyed a little fishing, gardening and watching TV. Most of all, he enjoyed "puttering," doing little odd jobs around the house.

He was a member of the Catholic Workmen, Spillville brand. George was a private person at heart and enjoyed being by himself.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; six children and spouses, Joan and Kurt Knoll of New Hampton, Gwen and Lenn Mclntire of Cresco, David and Patricia Klimesh of Becker, Minn., Dean Klimesh of Lourdes, Janet and Jeff Schon of Waukon, and Judy Klimesh of Cresco; 17 grandchildren; four brothers, Glen of Cresco, Gordon of Spillville, Gabe of Calmar and Gary of Burlington; and three sisters, Gayle Hudecek of Cresco, Greta Kriener of Spillville and Gloria Klimesh of Waterloo.

George Klimesh was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Gwen Klimesh as an infant, and Georgina Andera.
