Elmer Solheim

A Elmer Solheim, 78, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at the Green River Medical Center in West Burlington.

A memorial funeral service was held Friday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m., at the Lunning Chapel, Burlington, with the Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating.

Interment will be at the Fairfield Cemetery at a later date. The Lunning Chapel of Burlington is handling arrangements.

Elmer was born Feb. 8, 1922, in DECORAH, the son of Andrew and Guri (Lansurd) Solheim. He graduated from DECORAH High School and attended Luther College, DECORH, for two years.

He was married to Ruth Scott Dec. 18, 1949, in Middletown.

He was in the United States Army 96th Infantry Division during World War II. Elmer was a training specialist, for Mason & Hanger for 35 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of the Danville Masonic Lodge No. 48, AF&AM, V.F.W. Post No. 14000 and AARP. Elmer was Lutheran in faith.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of West Burlington; a daughter, Carol Solheim of Sperry; one sister, Olga Monsen of Carol Stream, Illinois; and nine nieces, and nephews.

Elmer Solheim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
