Mary Cora Goeders

Mary Cora (Doran) Goeders, 85, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at the family ranch near Ekalaka, Mont.

A funeral mass was held Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Tobin officiating.

The organist was Detta Breitbach. Marlene Young and Dianne Barker performed a duet.

Casket bearers were John Goeders, Nicholas Timmish, Junior Melum, Daniel Goeders, Richard Obie and Ernie Melum.

Honorary bearers were Lee Lewis, Bill Whitney, Josie Roadifer, Catherine Whitney, Ned Summers and Shirley Melum.

Interment was at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Ekalaka, Mont. The Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka handled arrangements.

Mary Cora (Doran) Goeders was born Dec. 15, 1913, in DECORAH, the daughter of James and Cora (Headington) Doran. She was the seventh of nine children.

She spent her early years in the Rudolph and Madison areas of Wisconsin. She later moved with her family to Minneapolis, Minn..

Mary worked as a housekeeper until the Depression. During these years, she worked with her family shocking grain, picking corn and blocking beets in the farm country of North and South Dakota.

Mary married John Goeders Oct. 30, 1945, in Minneapolis. They moved to the Goeders homestead in the Belltower Community, where she had continued to make her home. The couple had three children.

After the death of her husband in 1966 Mary continued running the farm and ranch operation until she retired in 1986 due to ill health. She enjoyed the ranch and all that it took to keep it going through many hardships and trials.

Mary enjoyed her family. Hobbies included making rosaries and writing poetry, as well as collecting and refurbishing old dolls.

Mary was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and the Daughters of America.

Survivors include a daughter, Marguerite and Jim Rozelle of Albany, Ore.; a son, James Goeders; four grandchildren, Jennifer Rozelle, Nicholas and Kerri Thimmish, John Goeders and Daniel Goeders; a brother, Pat Doran of Phelan, Calif.; a sister, Kate Crawford of Wyoming, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Mary Goeders was preceded in death by her husband, John; a daughter, Josephine; five brothers, William, Ben, George, Sam and James Doran; and a sister, Eva Schmick.
