Viola Latham

Viola Latham, 92, of Decorah, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.

Visitation is on Friday, Nov. 24 from 4-7 p.m. at Fjelstul Funeral Home with Rev. O. Paul Hougen officiating. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Fjelstul Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Russell Cemetery in rural Decorah.

Pallbearers will be Rick Anderson, Paul Coffeen, Craig Cutting, Rick Headington, Bryan Taylor and Gordon Thackery.

Organist will be Rev. Kristen Kvamme and soloist will be Mary Arneson, singing "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". The congregation will sing "The Old Rugged Cross."

Viola Mae Latham was born on August 22, 1908 to Edward and Johana (Landmeyer) Banning in Canoe Township, Winneshiek County. She attended schools in Decorah and rural Winneshiek County.

Viola met Eris (Dick) Latham at the Hotel Winneshiek, where she was a waitress and he was a Desk Clerk. They were married on August 23, 1930 at Webster City. They were the parents of three daughters: Elaine Marlowe of Milwaukee, Lola Kopp (deceased) and Marlene and Dave Taylor of Decorah.

The couple were members of the First United Methodist Church. Viola has been a resident of the Aase Haugen Home since July 26, 1990.

Surviving Viola include four grandchildren: Terry and Rick Anderson of Mount Vernona, Bryan and Marge Taylor of Holmen, Wisc., Connie Davedge of Anchorage, Alaska and Stanley and Linda Kopp of St. Louis, Mo.; three great grandchildren, Taylor Anderson and Adam and Ashley Taylor.

Viola M. Latham was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick, one daughter, Lola Kopp, on Nov. 29, 1993, one granddaughter, Darla (Kopp) Burnett, two grandsons, Timmy and Jimmy Kopp, three sisters, Clara Stafford, Rose Miller and Margie Kern, and two brothers, Herbert and Nathaniel Banning.
