Thomas Jerald Quandahl

Thomas Jerald Quandahl, 21, of Decorah, died Sunday, May 4, 2001 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon of injuries sustained in an automobile accident, 5 miles south of Waukon.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Gary Krapfl and Rev. John Mayer officiating.

Gift bearers were Levi Holstad and Erik and Nikki Rye.

Music was provided by Cantor Joan Schissel, organist Alan Sensor and pianist Vickie Kruse. George Marshall provided a harmonica solo, and soloist was Nicolette Kakos. Musical selections included "Here I Am Lord," "On Eagle's Wings," "Be Not Afraid" "Amazing Grace" and "Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory."

Pallbearers were Kurt Fortman, Tony Jensen, Wade Marlow, Scott Nordschow, Cory Quandahl, Jason Quandahl, John Quandahl and Jared Tilleraas.

Honorary Pallbearers were Darrell and Carrie Lentner, Lee and Lisa Pecinovsky, Casey Quandahl, Jacob, Jordan and Kristen Quandahl and the North Winneshiek senior class of 1998.

Burial was in Springwater Cemetery, rural Decorah, with full military honors by the United States Marine Corps.

Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.

Thomas Jerald Quandahl was born March 5, 1980 in Waterloo to Mark and Marilyn (Pecinovsky) Quandahl.

He graduated from North Winneshiek High School, class of 1998.

Thomas Quandahl entered the United States Marine Corps in Aug. 1998 and graduated from basic training in San Diego, Calif., Nov. 6, 1998. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., until March 1999, and then entered the Reserves and trained at the General Support Maintenance Company at Rock Island, IL.

Tom Quandahl had been working at Iowa Rotocast in Decorah as a frame welder.

He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and liked golfing and hunting and was an avid weight lifter. He enjoyed his family and friends, all of whom were very important to him.

Survivors include his parents, Mark and Marilyn Quandahl of Decorah; one brother, Jesse Quandahl, at home; his paternal grandparents, Clyde and Alverta Quandahl of Decorah; his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Pecinovsky of Protivin; aunts and uncles Jerry and Becky Quandahl of Corinth, Texas; Roger Pecinovsky of Ennis, Texas; Margaret and Jim Hruska of Protivin; Madonna and Mike Lasack of Martelle, Iowa and several cousins.

Thomas Jerald Quandahl was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Pecinovsky and his grandmother, Edna Quandahl.
