Raymond Kuhn

Raymond Henry Kuhn, 74, of Ossian, died Monday, Nov. 8 1999, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis., after a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m., at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Eldorado, with the Rev. Dennis Hugdahl officiating.

Richard Vagts was the organist. Special music was "Go Now in Peace," with Sue Lienau, Lee Hendrickson and Richard Hendrickson, and Irmgard Ellingson, accompanist.

The congregation sang "Amazing Grace," "O, God Our Help in Ages Past" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Lee Hendrickson, Eugene Schroeder, Stanley Ney, Young Name Park, Dennis Ney and Robert Klisart.

Interment was at the Hillside Cemetery in Ossian, with graveside military rites by members of the Brockman-Hammersland American Legion Post No. 503.

The Schmitz Funeral Home of Ossian handled arrangements.

Raymond was born Sept. 4, 1925, near Wadena in rural Fayette County, the son of Frederick and Cora A. (Schatz) Kuhn.

He was baptized by the Rev. Rembolt in Wadena and confirmed March 17, 1940, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Eldorado by the Rev. Foege. He received his education in the West Union schools and graduated from West Union High School in 1943.

During World War II, Raymond served his country in the United States Army from July 25, 1944, until June 11, 1946. He received the Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with Three Bronze Battle Stars, Three Overseas Service Bars, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), and the Good Conduct Medal.

Following his discharge in 1946, Raymond returned to Eldorado to the family farm.

On June 8, 1947, he was joined in marriage to Bina Schaab at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Eldorado. To their union a son was born. Bina died Jan. 3, 1953, after they had moved from Eldorado to their Ossian farm.

On April 28, 1967, Raymond was united in marriage to Eun Hee Park at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Eldorado. They made their home on Raymond's farm south of Ossian until 1977. They then retired from dairy and crop farming and moved to their present home near Ossian.

They operated "Eun Hee's Fine Gifts" store until the spring of 1997.

Raymond was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Eldorado, a member of Brockman-Hammersland American Legion Post No. 503 in Ossian, and a former member of the Ossian Crown Club. He enjoyed visiting with relatives and friends, traveling, fishing and woodcutting. He was an avid reader.

Survivors include his wife, Eun Hee Kuhn of Ossian; one son, Michael and Marilyn Kuhn of Red Bud, IL.; four grandchildren, LeAnne Perry, Laury Whitham, Stephanie Liefer and David Kuhn; five great-grandchildren, Lauren Perry, Christian Perry, Grant Perry, Cole Perry and Reid Perry; one sister, Adalyn and Donald Schnor of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Raymond Kuhn was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Bina.
