Shirley Fonseca

Memorial services for Shirley Fonseca, 63, of Rock Island, IL., were held Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at the Wheelan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Gibson officiating.

Private burial will be held at a later date in Chippiannack Cemetery, Rock Island.

Shirley died suddenly at her home Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, of a heart attack.

Shirley (Smock) Fonseca was born July 4, 1936, in Decorah, the daughter of Lester and Ida (Pushar) Smock.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Decorah. She received her education from the Decorah Schools, graduating in 1954.

In 1957 she was married to Mark Taylor in Decorah. To this union three children were born. The couple later divorced.

She was later married to Roy Fonseca of Rock Island. She was single at the time of her death.

Survivors include two daughters, Denise Wheatley of East Moline, IL., and Dawn Taylor of Rock Island, IL.; one son, David Taylor of Rock Island, IL.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Wheatley and Carey, Isaiah and Briana Taylor; one great-granddaughter, Aimiee Iverson; two sisters, Charleen and Robert Gilbertson of Decorah, and Kay and Lyle Numedahl of Calmar; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Don Smock of California.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and a sister, who died at birth.
