Edna Lenora Fenske

Edna Lenora Fenske, 91, of Ossian, died Monday, May 21, 2001 at the Ossian Senior Hospice, where she had made her home since May 7, 2000.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at Ossian Lutheran Church in Ossian with Rev. Cindy Arndt officiating.

Organist was Elaine Knutson. Hymn selections included "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me."

Casket bearers were James Meyer, Howard Johnson, Gary Skinner, Charles Jacobsen, Ahlert Anfinson and Kendall Jacobsen.

Interment was in Hillside Cemetery in Ossian. Schmitz Funeral Home of Ossian handled arrangements.

Edna Lenora Fosaaen was born May 11, 1910 in rural Ossian, the daughter of Andrew and Martha (Saboe) Fosaaen.

She lived with her parents on the family farm until she was 9 years old, and then moved with the family to town. She attended the rural school and then attended and graduated from Ossian Public School.

Edna Fosaaen went to college for commercial business in Mankato, Minn., and when she returned to Ossian, she worked for a dental office for a few years until she married.

On May 18, 1942, she married Albert Fenske at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Reno, Nev.

Albert Fenske was in the Air Force for many years and in Nov. 1954, they returned to Ossian.

They did a lot of traveling together, and Edna Fenske said she had been to every state except Hawaii and Alaska. They also traveled to Norway.

Her favorite destinations were Denver, Colo. and California because she liked the climate there.

Edna Fenske enjoyed reading magazines and newspapers, listening to the radio and watching television.

She was a member of the Ossian Lutheran Church and WELCA.

Survivors include six nieces and a nephew: Verna Skinner, Dolores Jacobsen, Alvina Olson, Alice Anfinson, JoAnn Meyer, Howard Johnson and Arlene Nelson.

Edna Lenora Fenske was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Fenske, July 12, 1979; three sisters: Ruth Fosaaen, Cora Anfinson and Myrtle Johnson, and nieces and nephews: Esther Nelson, Marjorie
Fosaaen, Kenneth Johnson and Arnold Johnson.
