Curtis Forbes

Curtis Forbes, 91, of Osage, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 20 at the First United Methodist Church in Osage, with Rev. Karen Nichols Dungan officiating.

Interment was Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Eastside Cemetery in Dodgeville, Wisc.

Champion-Pucheit Funeral Home of Osage handled the arrangements.

Curtis M. Forbes was born Jan. 7, 1909, on a farm near Dodgeville, the son of Samuel and Alma "Queen" (Conkle) Forbes. He grew up in the
Dodgeville area.

He married Norma Fern Edmunds on Feb. 11, 1927, at Galena, IL. They made their home in Dodgeville, Avoca and Bridgeport, Wisc, where Curtis Forbes built and operated the Holiday Motel in Prairie du Chien.

They moved to Osage in Jan. of 1955. Curtis Forbes was a cheese maker at the Rock Cheese Factory at Meroa, near Osage, retiring in 1974.

Following retirement, Curtis Forbes became known for his fiddle and violin playing, which he had enjoyed in his youth. He performed at churches and nursing homes, won numerous contests for fiddle playing at Yankton, S.D., and played at Nordic Fest in Decorah.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Osage.

Surviving Curtis Forbes are two daughters, Arlyne and Larry Seim of DECORAH and Eunice and Donald Hobkirk of Hudson; one son, Curtis Forbes, Jr. and Ann of Manawa, Wisc., and 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Curtis M. Forbes was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma Forbes in 1997, two sons and daughter-in-laws, Eugene and Joy Forbes and John and Rita Forbes, one sister, Alma Smith, and three brothers, Harland, Gordon and Orrin Forbes.
