Leslie G. Wennes

Leslie G. Wennes, 82, of rural Spring Grove, Minn., died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 22, at 1:30 p.m., at Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove, with the Rev. David Andreae officiating.

Burial will be at the Highland Lutheran Church cemetery. The Roble Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Leslie was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Highland Township of Winneshiek County, the son of Peter N. and Ida B. (Kittleson) Wennes. He attended rural school in Highland Township, at the Exey school.

He was a lifelong resident of Highland Township. On Dec. 17, 1949, he married Gladys Landsom at the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage in Spring Grove.

He farmed and operated a trucking service. He was a lifelong member of Highland Lutheran Church, rural Spring Grove, where he was quite active.

Leslie enjoyed working with his horses, and is remembered for teaching all his grandchildren how to drive. He liked old-time music and dancing, visting with people and playing cards. He is also remembered for his witty sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Spring Grove; one son, Greg and Jacque Wennes of Spring Grove; two daughters, Brenda Gullickson of Independence, Minn., and Patty Holck of Decorah; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Ione Hagen of Buffalo, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
