Ella Rose Knight

Ella Rose Knight, 93, of Decorah, died Monday, May 1, 2000 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 3, at 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Decorah, with the Rev, James Dale officiating.

The Rev. Kristen Kvamme was the organist. AJ Hogenson sang "In the Garden." The congregation sang "Amazing Grace."

Casket bearers were Daryl Moen, Larry Moen, David Hageman, Mark Kirkeby, Dale Kruse, Dale Hogenson, Danny Rosel and Brian Mahoney.

Burial was at the Freeport Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Ella (Zima) Knight was born Jan. 3, 1907, in Fort Atkinson, the daughter of John and Sophia (Rilling) Zima. She attended schools in Winneshiek County, and in Fillmore County, of Minnesota.

On Jan. 7, 1925, Ella was married to Walter R. Knight. They farmed in the Canton, Minn. area. They then farmed in the Hesper area and in Pleasant Township for many years, both in Winneshiek County.

Ella worked hard,on the farm. She always had coffee and food available for anyone who ever came by to visit. She had a unique personality and her grandchildren have many happy memories of her.

In her earlier years, she liked needlework, playing the guitar, singing and gardening. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She had been a resident of Oneota Riverview Care Facility for the last month. Prior to that, she had been at the Northgate. Care Center in Waukon.

Survivors include one daughter, Marcia and Gene Rosel of Decorah; eight grandchildren, Daryl and Mary Moen of Decorah, Larry and Judy Moen of Decorah, Charla Moen and fiance David Hageman of Decorah, Brenda and Mark Kirkeby of Frankville, Cathy and Dale Kruse of Decorah, Danny Rosel of Decorah, Julie and Dale Hogenson of Decorah and Suzette and Brian Mahoney of Waukon; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ella Knight was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter, who died April 7, 1975; and one daughter and son-in-law, Sharol and Curtis Moen. Sharol died Dec. 4, 1982 and Curtis died Aug. 7, 1986.
