Ernest Fossum

Ernest Fossum, 80, died Saturday, May, 15, 1999, at the Harmony (Minn.) Community Nursing Home, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 18, at 1:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Harmony, Minn., with the Rev. James Purdham officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Interment will be in the State Line Cemetery of rural Harmony, Minn. The Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony is handling arrangements.

Ernest Owen Fossum was born July 4, 1918, in Newburg Township of Fillmore County in Minnesota, the son of Carl and Gina (Storlie) Fossum.

He was confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Riceford, Minn. Ernest grew up and attended school at Riceford.

On Nov. 3, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mavis R. Watkins in Lanesboro, Minn. The couple resided in Harmony most of their 57 years of marriage.

Ernest spent 34 years as a semi-truck driver for White Motor Transport, Rap-n-Wax, Murphy Transport and eventually semi-retired by driving truck for HECO.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mavis of Harmony, Minn.; four daughters, Darlene and Gary Goodno of HESPER, Marlene Johnson of Waseca, Minn., Lynette and Bill Donald of Canton, Minn., and Renee and Larry Hosting, also of Canton; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernice Paulson of Austin, Minn.
