Curtis O. Haugen, 79, Decorah, died Oct. 12, 2000 at the Aase Haugen Home.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 16 at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church with Rev. Susan Debner officiating. Linda Brandt gave the eulogy.
Kathy Tollefsrud was the organist. The congregation sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "Amazing Grace" and "Softly and Tenderly."
Casket bearers were David Solem, Terry Bigalk, Todd Bigalk, Daniel Solem, Matthew Solem, Andy Stroeve and Luke Stroeve.
Honorary bearers were Kim Bigalk, Linda Brandt, Jan Istad, Charlayne Langley, Gladys Peterson, Randy Solem and Julie Stroeve.
Burial was at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Cemetery.
Fjelstul Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Curtis Haugen was born Oct. 4, 1921 at home in Springfield Township to Gjermund H. and Marie H. (Rustad) Haugen.
He attended rural schools of Winneshiek County. Curtis was baptized at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church Oct. 23, 1921 and confirmed at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, Aug. 25,1935.
He was a farmer for many years, then he moved to Decorah where he worked in road construction, at Northeast Farm Service and at Decorah Creamery.
He was a member of Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, where he served on church council and as an usher. He also was a member of the dartball team.
Curtis was a resident of the Aase Haugen Home since Jan. 18.
Survivors include four sisters, Arlyne Seaton, Spring Valley, Minn.; Geraldine and Curtis Solem, Decorah; Marilyn and Charles Istad, Decorah; and Kathryn and Kenneth Bigalk, Harmony, Minn.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister (Arlyne's twin) and one brother-in-law, Charles Seaton.
