Beatrice Aulwes

Beatrice Aulwes, 93, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital following a short illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Guttenberg, with the Rev. Karl Goodfellow officiating.

Casket bearers were David Aulwes, Rob Aulwes, Eric Noble, Jamie Aulwes, Justin Fitzgerald and Harlen Reyerson. Honorary bearers were Howard Duwe, Todd Schwarz and Tim Schwarz.

Burial was at the Guttenberg City Cemetery in Guttenberg. The Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Beatrice L. (Bogert) Aulwes was born Oct. 22, 1905, in Springfield, Mass., the daughter of Everett and Katherine (Tobin) Bogert.

She graduated from the Fayette High School in 1923; received her college education from Upper Iowa University, also in Fayette; taught school in the Guttenberg area; and was a homemaker for many years.

On Sept. 7, 1927, she was united in marriage with Ben G. Aulwes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

She was active in the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Methodist Church Women. Beatrice also belonged to the Literary Club, Guttenberg Pearl Chapter No. 143 Order, of the Eastern Star, and she volunteered at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Volstad of Guttenberg and Mrs. Helen (Duane) Schwarz of Newton; three sons, Bernard (Joanne) Aulwes of Chariton, Jerry (JoAnn) Aulwes of DECORAH and Carl (Rita) Aulwes of Costa Rica; 11 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Halsted of Cresco; and many friends.

Beatrice Aulwes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben; one daughter, Grace; two sisters, Edna Frommelt and Harriet Sterk; and one brother, Everett Bogert.
