Donald Novotny

Donald J. Novotny, 73, of Protivin, died Monday, March 22, 1999, at his home.

He donated his body to science for cancer research.

Memorial services were held Sunday, March 27, at 11 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, with the Rev. Allen Schmitt officiating.

Burial will be held at a later date at the church cemetery. The Conway Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Donald James Novotny was born Nov. 3, 1925, on a farm in Winneshiek County near Protivin, the son of Rudolph and Eleanora (Tupy) Novotny.

On Aug. 16, 1949, Donald was united in marriage with Mary Ann Kalishek at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin.

Donald was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and both the Catholic Workmen and the Knights of Columbus.

He was a lifelong farmer. For adventure, Donald was an avid world traveler. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, telling stories and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; eight children, Neal and Robin Novotny of Cupertino, Calif., Wanda and Frank Hulbert of St. Charles, Dorene and Jim Lyke of Rochester, Minn., Diane and Dan Kipp of New Hampton, Kenny and Shelly Novotny of Ridgeway, Duane and Jackie Novotny of Protivin, Jeff and Beth Novotny of Spillville, and Gary Novotny of Protivin; one step-grandson, James Luke; one sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Clarence Bouska; and one sister-in-law, Beverly Novotny, all of Protivin.

There are also 15 grandchildren, Jennifer and Brent Hulbert, Chad and Matthew Luke, Scott, Mark and Angela Kipp, Ethan, Emily and Mitchell Novotny, Allison, Ben and Taylor Novotny, and Brandi and Megan Novotny.

Don Novotny was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillian and Stanley Phillips, and Marvelene and Hugh King; one brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Helen Novotny; and a nephew, Mike Novotny.
