Cornelius Huinker

Cornelius "Neil" Huinker, 81, of Festina, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at the Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah following a lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial service was held Friday, June 8 at Our Lady of Seven Dolars in Festina at 10:30 a.m.

Monsignor Cletus Hawes officiated. Mass servers were Jacob Huinker and Brittany and Courtney Kuennen, and lector was Anna Mae Bergan-Davis.
Gift bearers were Cornelius Huinker's nieces.

Music was provided by organist Alan Sensor, Cantor Daryl Luzum and the Our Lady of Seven Dolars Choir.

Casket bearers were Dean Huinker, Kevin Huinker, Richard Luzum, Kevin Buchheit, Randy Kuennen and Raymond Huinker.

Interment was at Our Lady of Seven Dolars Cemetery in Festina, with arrangements by French Funeral Home of Calmar.

Cornelius Gerhard "Neily" Huinker was born July 8, 1918 near Festina, the son of Frank and Caroline (Einck) Huinker.

He attended Our Lady of Seven Dolars Catholic School, and farmed with his father and brother near Festina.

He ran the Festina Cafe for a few years and then went to work for the Creamery in Calmar and then at the Cliff House in Decorah. He retired in 1990.

He was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolars, The Forester's, St, Mary's Court, Festina and the Calmar Senior Citizen's Center.

He enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables to give away.

Survivors include his three sisters, Bernice and Lawrence Buchheit of Festina; Ethel Luzum of Calmar and Geneva and Clarence Kuennen of St. Lucas; two brothers, Donald and Catherine Huinker of Ossian and Bob and Arlene Huinker of Calmar; a sister-in-law, Bernice Huinker of Fort Atkinson and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Cornelius "Neil" Gerhard Huinker was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Caroline Huinker; one sister, Margie Huber; two brothers, Virgil and Gerald Huinker and two brothers-in-law, Paul Huber and Leonard Luzum.

Funeral services for Cornelius G. “Neil” Huinker of Festina were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 8, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors with interment in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Cemetery both in Festina. The Msgr. Cletus Hawes officiated.
French Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
