Marjorie Engbretson

Marjorie Engbretson, 73, of Decorah, died Monday June 25, 2001 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah fallowing a lengthy illness.

Memorial services were held Friday, June 29 at 2 p.m, at Madison Lutheran Church in Rldgeway, with Rev.'s Philip and Ginny Olson officiating.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Engbretson, Richard Engbretson, Robert Engbretson, Virgil Engbretson, Ted Kjosa, Dean Larson, Dennis Larson, Marvin Vick and Dean Witzke.

Organist was Martha Olson, and the congregation sang "Rock of Ages", "Amazing Grace", "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "How Great Thou Art."

Committal and burial were in the Madison Cemetery with the French and Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handling arrangements.

Marjorie Dean Engbretson was born Sept. 3, 1927 in Clarksville, Ark., to Denver and Berta (Laster) Houston.

She was baptized at an early age at the Harmony Presbyterian Church in Harmony, Ark.

She attended Clarksville Schools and married Irvin Engbretson Feb. 9, 1945 in McAlester, Okla. while he was a serviceman. To this union, one daughter was born, Carol Sue Engbretson.

Marjorie and Irvin Engbretson made their home on a farm west of Decorah until they moved to town in 1990.

Marjorie was a member of Madison Lutheran Church, where she confirmed her faith as an adult Jan. 23,1949. She was a member of the Madison W/ELCA and the Rebecca Circle, worked as a nurse's aide for many years and also did a lot of volunteer work with the SHARE Food Program and Helping Services. She enjoyed crocheting, talking on the C.B., watching rodeos, and also had an interest in politics. Marjorie especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends over a cup of coffee.

Survivors include her husband, Irvin Engbretson of Decorah; a daughter, Carol "Sue" Engbretson of Decorah; her mother, Berta Houston of Clarksville, Ark., and a sister, Augusta "Dixie" Chancy of Clarksville.

Marjorie Dean Engbretson was preceded in death by her father, Denver Houston and a brother, James Houston.

Funeral services for Maijorie Engbretson of Decorah were held at; 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 29, at Madison Lutheran Church, rural Ridgeway with interment in Madison Cemetery. The Rev. Phillip Olson and Rev. Ginny Olson officiated. Pallbearers were: Kenneth Engbretson, Richard Engbretson, Robert Engbretson, Virgil Kellison, Ted Kjosa, Dean Larson, Dennis Larson, Marvin Vick, and Dean Witzke. French & Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
