Rachel Meyer

Rachel Bernau Meyer, 67, formerly of Decorah, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in Louisville, Ky., after a five-month battle with cancer.

A memorial service was held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Ky., Tuesday, May 16.

A service for Iowa family and friends will be held in Iowa City at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1300 Melrose Ave., at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 25.

Rachel Meyer and her husband, Carl Meyer, moved from Decorah to Iowa City in 1964, where he co-founded Hansen-Lind-Meyer architectural firm.

In the late 1970s, Rachel returned to graduate school in interior design at the University of Iowa, where she completed her master's degree. She then taught part-time at university and worked as the interior designer for the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.

Rachel left Iowa City to expand her interior design career in 1987. After a year in Madison, Wis., she took a job in Louisville, Ky., with the Army Corps of Engineers Architectural Section, where she won numerous design awards. She was an active member of the Louisville chapter of International Interior Design Association.

In Louisville, Rachel rediscovered her passion for golf and played in several area leagues. She was an avid traveler and had just completed a tour of Greece prior to her illness.

Rachel Meyer is survived by her son, Brad Meyer and grandchildren Jessica, Laura and Jacob, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; her daughter, Pamela Meyer of Chicago, IL.; her brother, William Bernau of Iowa City; and sisters Jeanette Lyon of Fort Dodge and Virginia Harkins of Worland, Wyo.
