Funeral Services Held For Mathilda Meyer
Funeral services for Mathilda Meyer were held Monday, March 9, 1992 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. The Rev. H. W. Wolfgram officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.
Mathilda "Tillie" Mary Martha Meyer, daughter of Charles and Anna (Althouse) Schweinefus, was born April 16, 1900 in Dover Township, Fayette County, near Ossian, Iowa.
She was baptized in the Ossian Frame Lutheran Church and confirmed April 8, 1913, at St. Peter's Lutheran church, Eldorado.
On February 9, 1922 she was married to Edward William Meyer in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. To this union four children were born. They farmed primarily in the Castalia area. After the death of her husband in 1962, Tillie moved to Castalia.
Tillie was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia and the Women of the ELCA. Her life's work was being a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Mathilda Meyer died Friday, March 6 in the Good Samaritan Center, Postville.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie; a son Gene; a daughter Geraldine; a granddaughter Gerri Lynn Meyer; 4 brothers, Leo, Frank, Otto and a brother who died in infancy; and five sisters, Mabel Wirkler, Lena Everman, Francis Reinhardt, Lizzie Schroeder and Viola Kohls.
Survivors are a son, Milton Meyer, Lansing; a daughter, Marianne, West Burlington; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Millard (Elsie) Sampson, Castalia and Mrs. Donald (Esther) Stoessel, West Union.
