Charles Wells
Charles Wells, 85, of East Moline, IL., died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at the Rosewood Health Care Center in Moline, IL.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m., at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd. in East Moline, IL. Burial was at the Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.
Charles was born Nov. 4, 1913, in Decorah, the son of Walter and Gena (Nelson) Wells. He married Dorothy Kosbau June 14, 1941, in Nashua. She died April 10, 1988.
He was employed for 49 years at the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. (A & P), last managing A & P in Davenport.
Charles was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Moline, IL.
His interests were studying the Bible and witnessing to God's love, doing oil and watercolor painting, gardening and playing the organ.
Survivors include daughters Mary Lou and Charles Massa of Silvis, IL; and Mona Welvaert of Moline, IL; eight grandchildren, Mark Massa, John Massa, Kristin Davis, Jason, Jeremy, Jennifer and James Welvaert; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary Massa, Rachel Massa and Alyssa Davis; one sister, Alice Bush of Decorah; and several nieces and nephews.
Charles Wells was preceded in death by his wife; a brother and four sisters.
