Irene Louise Corlett

Irene Corlett, 88, of Castalia, died Monday, April 16, 2001 at the Ossian Senior Hospice after a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, with Rev. Dave Lenth officiating.

Organist was Marlys Hager, and lectors were Robert Szabo and Shelby Mundt.

Special music was provided by The Silver Memories with accompanist Irmgard Ellingson.

Casket bearers were Craig Mundt, Roger Koenig, John Stavnes, Terry Szabo, Roger Engelhardt, Larry Svendsen, Cletus Wander, Jeff Szabo and
Doyle Schroeder.

Interment was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia. Schmitz Funeral Home in Ossian handled arrangements.

Irene Louise Corlett was born to George and Christine (Borcherding) Kishman in Wagner Township, Clayton County, near Farmersburg Jan. 7, 1913.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, at Farmersburg. Her education followed at Gooding rural school, Monona High School and Upper Iowa University at Fayette.

She was united in marriage with Earle John Corlett on June 3, 1939, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. Three children were born to this union: Carman, Wayne and Lowell.

Irene was a former Winneshiek County Farm Bureau Women's chairman, a member of the Winneshiek County Extension Council, and also an officer of the former Decorah Conference ELCA Board.

Presently, she was a member of the Winneshiek County Physical Therapy Board, the Bloomfield Township Historical Society, a charter member of the Tuesday Club, a member of KEWS and two card clubs and was secretary of the Bloomfield Township Cemetery Association Board.

She was active in Zion Lutheran Church in various capacities: W/ELCA Group, W/ELCA Bible Study Leader and the Adult Sunday School. Within the church, her highest priority was the teaching of the youth, the junior high school and high school students.

Survivors include her daughter, Carmen Paddock of Tacoma, Wash., and two sons, Wayne and Beverly Corlett and Lowell Corlett, both of Castalia; a sister, Eunice and Dean Burnett of Las Vegas, Nev., and seven grandchildren.

Irene Corlett, was preceded in death by her husband, Earle Corlett, July I, 1986; her parents; a sister Shirley Schlake and a brother, Landry Kishman.
