Ruth Marie Fullhart

Ruth Marie Fullhart, 85, of Decorah, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2000, at the
Northgate Care Center in Waukon, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 13, at 1:30 p.m., at the Martin
Funeral Home in Waukon, with the Rev. Hans Floan officiating.

Inurnment will be at a later date in Hesper Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from noon until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Martin's.

Ruth (Stenborg) Fullhart was born May 30, 1914, near Fosston, Minn., the daughter of Nils and Ragnhild (Lornmen) Stenborg. She graduated from high school in the Fosston area and attended the University of Minnesota Extension School for business training.

She moved to the Chicago area a short time after finishing school, where she met Bufford Fullhart. They were married Nov. 19, 1935.

Ruth worked as a school cook in Glenview, IL. and school secretary in Glenview and Northbrook, IL. She also worked as secretary to the superintendent of the Glenview Park District.

She and Bufford moved to Horseshoe Bend, Ark., in 1977. They moved to Hesper in 1979, where they stayed for three years and then lived in Lansing for 12 years.

They returned to Hesper for a short time and lived the past year in Decorah.

Ruth was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church and its ladies circle.
While living in Horseshoe Bend, she was an EMT with the ambulance service. In Lansing, Ruth and Bufford were quite active in senior citizens affairs, assisting with the mealsite, the information center and often gave rides to people needing transportation. They also were involved with the Iowa Senior Legislature program.

Ruth liked traveling, reading, working jigsaw and word puzzles, playing solitaire and crocheting. She enjoyed taking a five-mile walk each day.

Survivors include her husband, Bufford of Decorah; two sons, Bufford "Bud" and Ellen Fullhart of Marysville, Wash., and Ron and Linda Fullhart of Decorah; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Ruth Fullhart was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Anna and Gertrude; and four brothers, Irvin, Nils, Olaf and Phinny.
