Irvin Allen

Irvin Orval Allen, 86, of Mabel, Minn, died Friday, June 2, 2000 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah.

Funeral services are Tuesday, June 6 at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel with the Rev. Lloyd Menke officiating.

Burial will be in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.

Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is in charge of the arrangements.

Irvin was born Sept. 28, 1913 to Tom and Emma (Forde) Allen, in Winneshiek County, rural Spring Grove, Minnesota.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper. He attended the Grindeland School and graduated from the eighth grade.

On September 28, 1938 he married Irma Randall at the Locust parsonage.
They farmed for six years before moving to Mabel and buying the Chevrolet and Allis Chalmer dealerships.

He later ran the Rushford sales barn for two years and then for several years did trucking for Donald Johnson Livestock. He then worked as a carpenter for the Hagen Lumber Company in Mabel until his retirement.

His hobbies included mowing the Mabel Sportsman's Park every summer, fishing and gardening.

He was a member of the Mabel First Lutheran Church and the Mabel Sportsman's Club, and formerly of the Mabel Fire Department, the Lions Club and the Mabel City Council.

Irvin is survived by his wife, Irma of Mabel; two daughters, Joyce and LuVerne Raaen of Mabel, and Jean Miller Noltee of Rochester, Minn.; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Henningsgaard of Hernmet, Calif, and Doris Newgard of Mabel; two brothers, Lester Allen of rural Decorah and Vernon and Ruth Allen of rural Spring Grove, Minn., nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A daughter JoAnne Fay and a son James Oakley Allen preceded him in death.
