Eunice Benson

Eunice M. Benson, 71, of Mabel, Minn., died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel, Minn.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m., at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel, with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating.

Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel Friday, Jan. 14, from 4-7 p.m., and one hour before services at the church Saturday.

Eunice (Foltz) Benson was born April 19, 1928, in Decorah, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Anderson) Foltz. She attended school in Canton, Minn., Hesper and Mabel, Minn.

On April 16, 1948, she married Arnold "Buddy" Benson at the parsonage in Mabel. They farmed in the Mabel area until moving to Spring Valley, Minn., in 1964.

There they owned the Four Winds Restaurant. Eunice also worked at Crenlo in Rochester, Minn.

In 1977 they farmed near Sheldon, Wis., until 1987, when they moved back to Mabel.

Eunice was a member of Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel and the Mabel Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband, Arnold of Mabel, Minn.; two sons, Gary of Mason City and Kyle of Miami, Fla.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Lloyd of Hesper and Dean of Caledonia, Minn.; and one sister Helen (Mrs. Harold) Selness of Spring Grove, Minn.
