Grace Vick

Grace Vick, 92, of Decorah and formerly of Mabel, Minn., died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

Memorial services were held Saturday, May 8, 1999, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, with the Rev. Hans Floan officiating.

Burial was at the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel handled arrangements.

Grace (Roney) Vick was born Sept. 20 1906, in Winneshiek County, the daughter of Frank and Maggie (Hill) Roney. She attended area schools and then attended teacher's college in Cedar Falls.

She taught in country schools in the Cresco and Decorah areas until marrying Conrad Vick June 1, 1933, in Decorah.

The couple farmed in Winneshiek County and in Minnesota's Fillmore County until Conrad's death in July of 1979.

Grace remained on the farm until 1982, when she moved to Decorah. She lived there until becoming a resident at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel for a short time.

Grace was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper and the World War I Barracks Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, Duane (Carolyn) of Charles City, and Gary (Sharon) of Mabel, Minn.; one daughter, Charilyn (Ed) Hover of Decorah; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ethel Martinson of Decorah.

Grace Vick was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.
