EVELYN QUANDAHL, 85, of Decorah, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a long illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with burial at the Springwater Cemetery, rural Decorah.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 4, from 4-8 p.m., at the Fjelstul Funeral Home, and Friday after 10 a.m. at the church.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen McCormick of Decorah and Wilma Steffans of Clermont; one brother, Jesse Young of Mabel, Minn,; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Quandahl

Evelyn Quandahl, 85, of Decorah, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Tom Miller officiating.

Casket bearers were Cheryl and Leslie Dahl, Debbie and Jeff Kimber, Jim and Danae McCormick, Jody and Christine McCormick, Ruth Larson, Donald and Karla Steffans, Greg Steffans, Roger Steffans, and Richard and Nikki Steffans.

Burial was at the Springwater Cemetery in rural Decorah. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Evelyn Katherine (Young) Quandahl was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Hesper Township of Winneshiek County, the daughter of Alfred and Emma C. (Grindeland) Young.

She was baptized Oct. 12, 1913, and confirmed Nov. 20, 1927, both at St. John's Lutheran Church at Locust, by the Rev. Carl Losen. Evelyn attended rural school at the Hesper District No. 3 School.

She was united in marriage with Walter Quandahl Aug. 15, 1935, in Austin, Minn.

Evelyn worked at Luther College for 31 years on the custodial staff, retiring in 1978. She belonged to First Lutheran Church, its circle and Ladies Aid groups. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers.

She had a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon since Dec. 2, 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen McCormick of Decorah, and Wilma and Don Steffans of Clermont; nine grandchildren, Cheryl and Leslie Dahl of Decorah, Debbie and Jeff Kimber of Decorah, Jim and Danae McCormick of Decorah, Jody and Christine McCormick of Muscatine, Ruth Larson of Clermont, Donald and Karla Steffans of Decorah, Greg Steffans of Decorah, Roger Steffans of Frankville, and Richard and Nikki Steffans of Postville; 15 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and one brother, Jesse and LaVonne Young of Mabel, Minn.

Evelyn Quandahl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter, who died July 7, 1973; and two grandsons, Terry McCormack and Gary Steffans.
