Elvin T. Wangsness
Elvin T. Wangsness, 96, of Decorah, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at the Green Lea Manor in Mabel, Minn.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m., at Highland Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Andreae and the Rev. Daniel Wee officiating.
Casket bearers were Louis Albertson, Ronald Albertson, Boyd Anderson, Norvin Anderson, James Casterton and Robert Clausen. Honorary bearers were all Elvin's grandchildren.
Burial was at the Highland Lutheran Cemetery. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Elvin was born June 15, 1902, at home in Springfield Township of Winneshiek County, the son of Lasse and Hansina (Hermanson) Wangsness.
He attended rural schools in Springfield Township, both public and parochial.
On Nov. 5, 1939, he was united in marriage with Nina Hjelle in Rock Rapids. They farmed for a number of years in Winneshiek and Howard counties, including a number of years in Highland Township.
The couple retired from farming and moved into Decorah in the spring of 1974.
Elvin was a member of Highland Lutheran Church and Brotherhood. His hobbies were his love of farming and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Nina of Mabel, Minn.; one son, Clayton and Harriet Wangsness of Spring Grove, Minn., Sharon and Pat Drew of Decorah, and Barbara (Wangsness) and Natanael Lizarazo of Decorah; six grandchildren, Benjamin and Jennifer Kidd, Erik, Anne and Jon Wangsness, and Alicia Lizarazo; and one sister, Florence Albertson of Spillville.
Elvin Wangsness was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Jesus Lizarazo; eight sisters; and one brother.
