Milton E. Hove
Milton E. Hove, 74, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at. St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 21, at 1:30 p.m., at the Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with the Rev. Susan Debner officiating.
Rosie Teslow was the organist. The prelude was "Make This Child Yours" by violinist Jenny Hove, accompanied by Ruth Schultz and Anna Voltmer.
The Luren Singing Society sang "We Shall Walk Through the Valley" and "Den Store Hvide Flok." The Silver Memories Trio sang "Beautiful Savior Medley."
The congregation sang "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less" and "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God."
Casket bearers were James Barth, Tom Fisher, David Hendrickson, Dale Nimrod, Alan Rosendahl and Jeff Schaller.
Burial was at the Pontoppidan Cemetery with full military rites by Helof-Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977 and Bematz-Symonds American Legion Post No. 163.
The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Milton was born May 31, 1925, at Ridgeway. He was baptized and confirmed in May of 1940 at the Lincoln Lutheran Church of Ridgeway.
He graduated, with the Ridgeway High School Class of 1943. Milton served in the United States Navy from 1944-46, aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown. Milton was married to Marjorie Olson Sept. 26, 1948, at Glenwood Lutheran Church. He farmed in rural Decorah for over 50 years.
He also was a member of Luren Singing Society for 40 years, Helof-Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977, Winneshiek County Saddle Club and the Farm Bureau for 50 years.
Milton was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church, its church choir and Brotherhood. He was a past Church Council member.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; one son, Steven and Paula Hove of Decorah; three daughters, Joann Voltmer of Decorah, Susan Hove of Decorah, and Ruth and Randy Schultz of Overland Park, Kan.; six grandchildren, Phillip, and Jenny Hove, Gerad and Anna Voltmer, and Lauren and Alex Schultz; and two sisters, Helen McClish of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Ellen Fisher of Lawler.
Milton Hove was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
