Orlando Moen

"Slim" Orlando Clarence Moen, 51, of Granger, Minn., and formerly of Decorah, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Granger, at a friend's home, following a sudden heart attack.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church with the Rev. Susan Debner officiating.

Alan Sensor was the organist. Congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace" and "Borning Cry". Soloist Don DiLaura sang "One Day At A Time".

Casket bearers were Lori Halvorson, Barbara Thorstenson, Robert Moen, Bradley Thorstenson, Ron Gavle and Mike Casterton.

Honorary bearers were Leland Naley, Kenny Groth, Richard Lacey, Donald Vick, Robert Snell, Ron Jabe, Roger Hovey and Gordon Swenson.

Orlando Moen was born July 16, 1949 in Waukon, the son of Clarence and Arlene (Rude) Moen. Slim lived at Skaim's Hollow, in Glenwood Township as a child and was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church.

He was married to Donna Jean Gelo Aug. 20, 1966, at Glenwood Lutheran Church.

Slim worked for Carolan & Wicks Construction, Wapsie Produce and Ron Gavle Trucking before he started his own business, Moen Trucking, which
he ran for several years.

In 1980, he and his family moved to the Glenwood area and then, in 1989, he moved to the Granger area.

Slim very much enjoyed horses and, in later years, draft horses.

Survivors include his mother, Arlene Moen of Decorah; two daughters, Lori Ann Halvorson of Waukon, and Barbara Jean and Bradley Thorstenson of Decorah; one son, Robert James Moen and fiance Jennifer Polacek of Burr Oak; three grandchildren, Mitchell Halvorson, Daniel Halvorson and Jessica Thorstenson; one sister, Gail and Robert Snell of Burr Oak; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Orlando Moen was preceded in death by his father, Clarence, who died Feb. 12, 1998; and one son, Orlando Clarence Moen, Jr., who died Feb. 24, 1967.
