GERZINE, Rudolph "Dutch" 1905-1998 & Elinor Gladys (Geske) 1915-2001

Decorah Public Opinion, Tuesday, June 5, 2001

Elinor Gerzine, 86, of Decorah, died June 2, 2001 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following an 8-year battle with Polymyalgia and Alzheimer's.

A memorial service will be held at a future date for Elinor Gerzine and her husband, Rudolph "Dutch" Gerzine at the Aase Haugen Home.

Pastor G. Olson will officiate, and Fjelstul Funeral Home will handle arrangements.

"Dutch" Gerzine passed away Oct. 24, 1998 at his daughter's home in Decorah of a benign brain tumor.

Interment will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau, Wis. presided by Rev. F. Damgaard.

Elinor Gladys Geske was born in Wausau, where she lived for many years, graduating from the Normal Teachers College.

She worked for many years for Employers Insurance.

"Dutch" Gerzine was born Nov. 27, 1905 in Hibbing, Minn., and worked at the taconite mines before moving to Wis.

He played professional baseball and football.

Elinor and "Dutch" Gerzine owned and operated the Texaco station in Wausau before moving to Alaska to own and operate their Bicycle Shop,

After retiring and moving back to the mainland states, they owned and operated the golf driving range before retiring again.

"Dutch" Gerzine was very active in golf, curling, Legion baseball, bowling and pool.

Elinor Gerzine was very active in volunteer work such as Red Cross, as a reader to the blind and mission work for the church.

She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, canning for her family and always making sure everyone was taken care of.

Both were active in the Anchorage Lutheran and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

The couple was the parents of two children, Troy Gerzine of Layfette, Colo., and Theresa and Dean McCabe of Decorah.

Elinor and "Dutch" Gerzine will be missed by all whose lives they touched on their journey through life.

Survivors include their 2 children, five grandchildren; great-grandchildren and many foster children.
