Ardith Nelson

Ardith Nelson, 63, of Decorah, died Sunday, May 27, 2001 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 1 at 1:30 p.m. at Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah.

Rev. Steven Jacobson and Rev. Kim Smith officiated.

Music was provided by organist Alan Sensor, and musical selections included "The Lord's Prayer," "Abide With Me" and "Amazing Grace." Special music was provided by organist Harley Fagerlie and soloist Russ Nelson, who performed "Just A Closer Walk With Thee".

Casket bearers were David Halverson, Clay Halverson, Josh Halverson and Dick Clark.

Honorary casket bearers were Harley Fagerlie and Richard Nelson.

Interment was in Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. French and Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.

Ardith Junette Nelson was born June 14, 1937, the daughter of Alton and Adeline (Fagerlie) Nelson in rural Decorah.

She was baptized at First Lutheran Church and confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church.

She graduated from Ossian Public Schools in 1956, and worked in Cedar Rapids before returning to Decorah.

Ardith Nelson had been a resident of Oneota Riverview Care Facility for over 20 years.

She enjoyed ceramics, music, playing bingo and her friends at the care facility.

Survivors include her mother, Adeline Koepp of Decorah; four sisters: Nell Jane Stemmerman of Cincinnati, Ohio; twins Pamela Ford and Penelope Boyd, both of Waterloo and Rebecca Halverson of Decorah; a brother, Dennis Koepp of Decorah; 14 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

Ardith Junette Nelson was preceded in death by her father, Alton Nelson; her stepfather Robert Koepp; two brothers, Phillip and Robert Nelson and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
