Services for Bernard J. Menne held recently.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, for Bernard J. Menne. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, Ossian.
Bernard J. Menne died Friday, May 29, at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah.
Bernard Joseph Menne was born February 14, 1907, in Borgentreich, Westphalia, Germany to Lawrence and Johanna (Wulfhurst) Menne. His education in Germany consisted of eight years elementary school and two years at a trade school for brick laying and shoemaking. In 1927, at the age of 20, Bernard came to the United States, first settling in North Dakota as a laborer and then to Techny, Ill., where he worked at the Divine Word Seminary. On January 8, 1936, Bernard was married to Irene Wieling, Calmar. They made their home on a farm near Calmar, moving in 1939 to a farm near Ossian. His wife died January 2, 1979.
Menne was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Church, Rosary Society, Holy Name Society and the Winneshiek County Farm Bureau.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Irene; two sons, Frank and Anthony; a daughter, Mary, and five brothers, his twin, Joseph, Alfons, Frank and Fritz Menne.
Surviving are four sons, Joseph, Viroqua, Wis., Richard and Linus, West Union, Larry, Decorah; four daughters, JoAnn Rausch, LaCrosse, Wis., Edna Ahlgren, Carmichael, Calif., Ann Aders, Tustin, Calif., and Phyllis Kauten, Madison, Wis., twenty grandchildren; several great grandchildren; four brothers, Herman, Alvois, Lorenz and Anton, all of Germany; one sister, Marie Stuwe, of Germany.
