Elmer Johnson
Elmer Johnson, 89, of Bemidji, Minn., died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at his home.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m., at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Bemidji, Minn., with the Rev. Dan Heath officiating. Interment was at the Calvary Cemetery in Bemidji. The Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji handled arrangements.
Elmer Magnus Johnson was born April 17, 1909, in Cyrus, Minn., the son of Eric and Mary (Grondahl) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Cyrus, Minn., graduating from high school there.
He attended Luther College in Decorah from 1929-1931.
On July 22, 1932, he was united in marriage with Karen Wendella Josvanger in Ridgeway. They resided in Cyrus, Minn., until 1937, when they moved to Decorah.
Elmer worked for John Deere Co. in Decorah until 1952, when they returned to Cyrus, Minn. He then worked for John Deere in Morris, Minn. until 1965, when they moved to Bemidji, Minn.
Elmer was owner/partner in General Trading Auto Parts Store in Bemidji, Minn., from 1965-77, when he retired. He and his wife were Twins fans, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Wendella of Bemidji, Minn.; two sons, Arland Johnson of Bemidji, Minn., and David and Sonia Johnson of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and one sister, Jeanette Cronan of Benson, Minn.
Elmer Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Julius and Toraf; and one sister, Helena.
