Melvin Dahl

Melvin Dahl, 83, of Mabel, Minn., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 2 p.m., at the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Mabel, with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery. The Mengis Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Melvin was born Dec. 16, 1915, in Winneshiek County, the son of Bert and Caroline Dahl. He attended area schools.

On Dec. 16, 1941, he was married to Norma Vick in Mabel. The couple farmed in Winneshiek County for a short time and then in rural Mabel before retiring in 1992, when they moved into Mabel.

Melvin was a member of Garness Trinity Lutheran Church of rural Mabel.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; two daughters, Marilyn and Roger Torgerud of Lanesboro, Minn., and Norene and Dennis Hammon of Lime Springs; seven grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; three brothers, Arnold Dahl of Waterloo, Maurice Dahl Sr. of Decorah and Berner Dahl of Mabel, Minn.

Melvin Dahl was preceded in death by two brothers, Sverre Dahl Sr. and Hildus Dahl, and one sister, Helen (Mrs. Harold) Selness.
