Jens 0. PetersonJens 0. Peterson, 86, of Decorah, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Oneota Riverview Care Facility of Decorah, following a Iong illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m., at French & Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, with the Rev. Tim Tostengard of Decorah Lutheran Church officiating.
Casket bearers will be Arlin Bigalk, Dean Bigalk, Thomas Dvorak, Calvin Peterson and Gale Peterson.
Burial will be at the Fremont Cemetery in rural Kendallville.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday, Oct. 21, from 4-6 p.m. The French & Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Jens was born Jan. 12, 1913, in Fremont Township, Winneshiek County,
the son of Ole J. and Lena (Granhaug) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Fremont Lutheran Church.Jens attended Fremont Country School No. 3 and helped on the family farm until 1956. Jens then moved to Decorah and was employed by the Winneshiek Hotel.
He was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his sister, Alice Johnson of Evansdale, and several nieces and nephews.
Jens Peterson was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Alma Prey, Luana Bigalk, Olive Kurfirst, Amanda Peterson and Helen Syverud; and four brothers, Jennings, Lawrence, Alvin and Teman Peterson.
