Donald Hansel

Donald Hansel, 76, of Fort Atkinson and formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 2, at 2 p.m., at the Chekal Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson, with the Rev. Allen Schmitt officiating.

Casket bearers were Dennis Baker, Don Baker, Emery Munn, Bill Nohre, Bill Holtey and Bud Holtey.

Burial was at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Fort Atkinson. The Chekal Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Donald was born March 31, 1922 in Des Moines, the son of Philip and Sophia (Buhrman) Hansel. He attended school in Edgewood.

Donald was married to Ruth Rosenbaum at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville Aug. 4, 1962.

Donald worked at Platt Funeral Home when he was younger, then he was employed by Freuhauf Trailer Co. and Carlson Construction Co. After a
disabling auto accident he was an auto mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; five brothers, Robert and Leonard of Edgewood, and Jay, Curt and Doug, all of Cedar Rapids; and one sister, Dorothy Taylor of Cedar Rapids.

Donald Hansel was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janice; and three brothers, Cie James, Leon and Burdette Hansel.
