Mary Ann Montag

Mary Ann Montag, 71, of Mankato, Minn., died Thursday March 18, 1999, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 21, at 1 p.m., at the Woodland Hills Chapel in Mankato.

Burial will be at the Calmar Lutheran Cemetery in Calmar at a later date.

Mary Ann (Bjonerud) Montag was born March 11, 1928, at Calmar, the daughter of Idor B. and Doris M. (Soblick) Bjonerud.

She received a teaching degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a general studies degree at Mankato State University.

Mary Ann was a mother and homemaker and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had owned and managed the Creamery Antique Store in Madison Lake, Minn., and also worked for many years in the Mankato community.

She had been a personnel manager at Brett's Department Store, manager of The Readmore Bookstore, and most recently worked as a salesperson at Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Mankato.

Mary Ann enjoyed reading, crafting, travel and helping people. She enjoyed the hours she spent doing volunteer work for CADA House, Eclipse, Hospice and the Mankato Senior Citizens Center.

She also served on the Board of Directors at Minnesota Valley Regional Library and was a 45-year-member of North Mankato Sewing Club.

She is survived by five sons, Thomas Montag of Asheville, N.C., Mick and Donna Montag of Mankato, Minn., Jack and Kathy Montag of Boynton Beach, Fla., Jim Montag of Apple Valley, Minn., and William Montag Jr. of Vail, Colo.; two daughters, Randi Montag Peterson of Maxwell, and Robyn and William P. Schendel of Mankato, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mary-Ann Montag was preceded in death by her parents.
