Frank Karnik

Frank Joseph Karnik, 79, of Fort Atkinson, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at his home.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Fort Atkinson, with the Rev. Allen Schmitt officiating.

Burial was at St. John's Cemetery. The Chekal Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Frank was born Aug. 25, 1920, in Fort Atkinson, the son of Frank and Lena (Taylor) Karnik. He attended school in Fort Atkinson and served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was married to Ivyleen Meyer and to this union two children were born, Russel and Jane. Frank later married Lillian Stepan and they had four children, Frank, Larry, Betty and Jim.

Frank worked for Joe Pavlovec Construction of Calmar, Meyer Brothers Construction in Fort Atkinson and then with Wiltgen Construction from Calmar.

He enjoyed participating in the Rendezvous as a buckskinner.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty and Gary Dornath of Rolfe, and Jane Karnik of Woodward; and four sons, Russel and Lorraine Karnik of Fort Atkinson, Larry and Erin Karnik of Cedar Rapids, Jim Karnik and Beth of Spillville, and Frank Karnik and Mary of Fort Atkinson; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchrldren; and two sisters, Mildred Braynard of Cedar Rapids and Viola Herold of Spillville.

Frank Karnik was preceded in death by his parents.
