Agnes Wiest
Agnes Wiest, 99, of Fort Atkinson, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton following a short illness.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, with Rev. John Moser and Rev. Robert Ament officiating.
Interment was at, St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Fort Atkinson.
Music was provided by the St. John's Choir and organist. Lector was John Wiest, and Eucharistic Minister was Pat Wiest. Mass servers were Matthew Cahalan, Gary Wiest, Jr. ard Marshall Mihm. Offertory gifts were presented by Agnes granddaughters.
Castket bearers were Ron, Jim, Gary, Roger, Wayne and Charles Wiest; and Steve and Scott Swisher.
Agnes Mary Wiest was born Jan. 28, 1901, in Protivin, the daughter of John and Anna (Zajicek) Vorda.
She married Henry Wiest on Sept. 7, 1920 in Protivin, and then lived by the mill in Fort Atkinson for many years. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts.
Survivors include her son, Arnold Wiest and wife Betty of Fort Atkinson; her daughter, Ann Swisher and her husband William of Waterloo; two daughters-in-law, Vera Wiest and Ellen Wiest, both of Fort Atkinson; two sisters, Rose Shimek of Cresco and Ann Lukes of Hoquiam, Wash.; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Agnes Wiest was preceded in death by her parents; husband Henry in 1964; three sons, Henry Wiest, Jr., Clarence Wiest and Art Wiest; two great grandchildren; one brother, James Vorda; and two sisters, Mayme Nibauer and Cecelia Shimek.
