Allen "Butch" Carolan

Allen "Butch" Carolan, 58, of Decorah, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at Veterans Hospital in Tomah, Wis., following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services were held at the French and Balik Funeral Home in Decorah Saturday, June 23 at 1 p.m. Rev. Gary Krapfl of St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah officiated.

Honorary Casketbearers were all of Allen "Butch" Carolah's good friends.

Interment was in the Bluffton Cemetery in Bluffton, with arrangements by the French and Balik Funeral Home of Decorah.

Allen "Butch" Jerome Carolan was born Aug. 8, 1942, the son of John and Julia (Broghammer) Carolan in Decorah.

Allen "Butch" Carolan attended Decorah schools, graduating in 1960. He served in the United States Army from 1960-1963 in Germany.

Allen "Butch" Carolan returned to Decorah and was the longtime manager of the Liquor Store in Decorah until the mid-1980s.

He also ran Eddie's Shoe Repair and the Water Street Laundromat until June 1999.

Allen "Butch" Carolan then entered the Veterans Assistance Program in Tomah, Wis., due to his declining health.

He was an avid gun enthusiast and enjoyed reading history.

Survivors include two sons, Brian and Susan Carolan of Bluffton and Dirk Carolan of Nashville, Tenn.; three granddaughters; three brothers, Adrian Carolan of Birmingham, Ala.; Clair and Faye Carolan of Fort Atkinson and Daniel and Nancy Carolan of Elgin and several nieces and nephews.

Allen "Butch" Jerome Carolan was preceded in death by his parents.
