Lelia E. Knight

Lelia E. Knight, 98, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Dec 7, 1999, at the Oneota Riverview Care Facility.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Decorah, with the Rev. James Dale officiating.

The Rev. Kristen Kvamme was the organist. The congregation sang "Joy to the World," "Amazing Grace," "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" and "In the Garden."

Casket bearers were Greg Beisker, Ennid Hill, Marvin "Butch" Hill, Ron Hill, Donald McClintock and LeRoy McClintock.

Burial was at Council Hill Cemetery in rural Monona. The Fjelstul Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Lelia (Cahoon) Knight was born Oct. 9, 1901, at home in rural Allamakee County, the daughter of Raymond and Zelda (Denning) Cahoon. She grew up in the Pleasant Ridge area and attended rural schools of Allamakee County.

She was married to Louis Alpha "Alf" Knight Nov. 30, 1922, at the home of her parents in McGregor.

Lelia was a member of Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church and was very active there, including playing the organ. Her husband, "Alf", later bought the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church and made it into the family home, where they lived. Lelia was a homemaker. She had been a resident at the Oneota Riverview Care Facility since June of 1965. She was a member of McGregor United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Ruth McClintock of Decorah, Hazel Hill of Waukon, and Betty and Howard Hill of Waukon; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-greatgrandchildren.

Lelia Knight was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis "Alf" Knight, who died May 21, 1965; four children, Shirley Beisker, and three infants, Ina Rae, Eva June and Louis Alpha Jr.; three sons-in-law, Mervin Hill, Sidney McClintock and Marvin Beisker; two sisters, Nina Wilkins and Geneva Schlitter; and one brother, Kenneth Cahoon.
