Marie E. Wiese
Marie E. Wiese, 90, of Decorah and formerly of Arlington, S.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington, S.D., with the Rev. Loren Odland officiating. Burial was at the Elkton City Cemetery, Elkton, S.D.
The Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handled local arrangements, with the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home of Arlington, S.D., handling arrangements there.
Marie E. (Schaffer) Wiese was born March 3, 1909, at Wanda, Minn., the daughter of John and Tena (Holznagel) Schaffer.
She attended school at Elkton, S.D., and graduated from Elkton High School in 1926. She graduated from Eastern Normal State College (Dakota State University) in Madison, S.D., with a teaching certificate.
Marie taught in rural schools in South Dakota before her marriage to Frank R. Wiese June 22, 1937, in Elkton, S.D. After marriage, the couple
lived in Madison, S.D., before moving to Seattle, Wash., then to Arlington, S.D., where they lived for 50 years.During that time, Marie worked at the Arlington (S.D.) Public Schools in the dietary department.
Her husband died Dec. 6, 1995.
Marie was a resident of the Beverly Health Care Center in Arlington, S.D., for nine months before moving to Decorah in July of 1996, to the Barthell Eastern Star Home.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington, S.D.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy and Mark Rima of Decorah; two grandchildren, Brett and Lori Raasch of Dubuque, and Kayla and Jim Denk of Burnsville, Minn.; three greatgrandchildren, Ryan Raasch, and MacKenzie and Collin Denk; two sisters, Helena Rauls of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Erna Mutton of Los Lunas, N.M.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Marie Wiese was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three sisters, Ada Kramer, Margaret Bauman and EmJean Anderson.
