BLAINE JONES, 74, of DeForest, Wis., and formerly of Decorah, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at the Lodi (Wis.) Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services will be held Wed., Feb. 3, at 11 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church in DeForest, Wis., with visitation at the church Tuesday, Feb. 2, from 4-7 p.m.

The Edwardson-Axtell Community Funeral Home in DeForest, Wis. is handling arrangements.

Blaine Jones

Bayard (Blaine) Jones, 74, of DeForest, Wis., died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center in Lodi, Wis., after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church in DeForest, Wis., with the Rev. Charles Peterson officiating.

Burial was at the Norway Grove Lutheran Cemetery. The Edwardson-Axtell Funeral Home of DeForest handled arrangements.

Blaine was born June 16, 1924, the son of Frank and Gurina (Hegland) Jones. He was baptized in Winneshiek County, near Ossian. He was raised until the age of 12 in rural Ulysses, Neb., and then moved to Ossian, where he was confirmed at Ossian Lutheran Church. He attended school and graduated from Ossian High School in 1942.

He served 39 months as a radioman in the United States Navy during World War II, 29 months of which he spent on a destroyer escort in the Aleutian Islands. The remainder was spent on the U.S.S. Puget Sound aircraft carrier. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

On Feb. 20, 1948, he married Grace Bruvold at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church near Decorah. To this union three sons were born.

They farmed near Decorah for 10 years. In 1958 the family moved to Wisconsin and continued farming near Elroy and later in the DeForest and Morrisonville area. Blaine also worked for Paulson Construction for 19 years.

He became a resident at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center in December of 1995. Grace and Blaine celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the center in February of 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Grace; three sons, Gary Jones of DeForest, Wis., Mark and Diane Jones of Grand Forks, N.D.; and Dale and Patricia Jones of DeForest, Wis.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Opal Allen of Decorah; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Blaine Jones was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to the Lodi Good Samaritan Center of Lodi, Wis., or to the Christ Lutheran Church of DeForest, Wis.
