Jennie Marie Chapman

Jennie Marie Chapman, 75, of Decorah, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Aug. 13, at 2 p.m., at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

The Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah and the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr are handling arrangements.

Jennie Marie (Garity) Chapman was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Rice Township
of Ringgold County, rural Benton, the daughter of John H. and Katie (Waugh) Garity.

She grew up in Ringgold County and graduated from Delphos High School in 1941. She later attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

Marie was the high school secretary at North Fayette Community Schools in West Union for 32 years. She enjoyed the students and is remembered as being loyal to them, the school and everyone associated. After retiring in 1991, she moved to Decorah. Marie was a member of the Iowa Educational Secretaries and the Minnesota Group of International Secretaries.

Survivors include three children, Myron Carl "Bud" and Barbara Chapman of Waterloo, Judy Marlene Chapman of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Ronald Bradford "Brad" Chapman; three grandchildren, Shawn King of Denver, Colo., Tiffany Owens of Monterey, Calif., and Jaime Chapman of Mayfield, Ken.; one great-grandson, Zachery Gillfillan of Littleton, Colo.; one great-granddaughter, Emily Beaubien of Mayfield, Ken.; one brother, John Garity of Kansas City, Mo.; and three sisters, Sadie and Paul Rice of Corvallis, Ore., Ellen and Walt Huggins of, Kansas City, Mo., and Patricia and Larry Meeks of Kansas City, Mo.

Marie Chapman was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Kamon Shane Chapman in 1993; and by a sister, Kathryn Morris.
