Robert James Nash

Robert J. Nash, 74, of Waukon, died suddenly Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in La Crosse, Wis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 11 a.m., at Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with the Rev. Susan Debner officiating.

Casket bearers will be Don Drenth, Dennis Wilkins, Loren Brandt, Jim Westby, Ordell Sorum, Giles Teslow, James Ehrie and Brian Westby.

Honorary bearers will be Ericka and Tracy Grinna; Denise, Kyle and Brooke Ruggles; Chris and Megan Shukers; Crystal, James and Carl Schatz; and Greg, Mike and Jonny Durst.

Burial will be at the Glenwood South Cemetery. The Martin Funeral Home of Waukon is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, from 4-8 p.m., at Martin's.

Robert James Nash was born May 24, 1925, on the Nash family farm in Allamakee County, the son of Albert and Johanna (Ehrie) Nash. He was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member. He attended the Bell School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1944.

On July 10, 1947, he married Colleen Bulman at Glenwood Lutheran Church.

Robert was a dairy farmer, on the home place until 1972, when he moved to a neighboring farm and started raising beef cattle. He also did custom farming until he retired in 1986.

During the last few years, Bob was quite active in woodworking. He had a longtime enjoyment of the saxophone and played in many bands, including
several polka masses in the last few years.

Bob was an active member of the Glenwood Lutheran Church, serving as president and council member, and holding various offices in the Glenwood Brotherhood.

Survivors include his wife, Colleen of Waukon; four daughters, Cheryl and Tom Grinna of Sun Prairie, Wis., Mary Jo and Dan Shukers of Cedar Rapids, Debra and Daniel Schatz of Twin Lakes, Minn., and Becky and Robert Durst of Rapid City, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Robert Nash was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister, Ardys.
