Ruth Forde

Ruth Forde, 64, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Decorah, died Nov. 9, 2000, of respiratory failure in Minneapolis.

The family of Ruth Forde will hold a visitation to greet friends at the Decorah Lutheran Church beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000. A Memorial Service will follow at 2 p.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. Ole Winter officiating. A private family burial will take place at Union Prairie Cemetery. Fjelstul Funeral Home will handle arrangements.

Ruth A. (Throndson) Forde was born on March 1, 1936 in Decorah. She was baptized and confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church. She married Lawrence J. Forde on Feb. 3, 1954 at Decorah Lutheran Church. To this union five children were born, Mary (Mrs. Phil) Roberts of Maiden Rock, Wisc., Vernon Forde of Cedar Rapids; John Forde of Marion; Dan Forde of Portland, Ore. and Gary Forde of Middleton, Wisc. The couple divorced in 1972.

The family moved northeast of Decorah until 1961, then to Hesper until 1964. Ruth was employed at the Mabel Nursing Home during this time. In 1964, the Forde family moved to Cedar Rapids, where Ruth was employed at Shane Nursing Home until 1972.

Some of Ruth's favorite things included people, wildflowers and watching birds.

Ruth earned the Associate degree in Nursing in 1975 from Kirkwood Community College. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at
University of Iowa Hospitals from 1976 until 1996 when she retired early
due to C.O.P.D. Emphysema.

Ruth was preceded in death by her father, Alex Throndson, her mother Mary Hotvedt, and a brother, Truman Throndson. She is survived by four grandchildren: Lisa Roberts of Maiden Rock, Wisc.; Jessica Roberts of Eau Claire, Wisc.; Nichole Forde of Cedar Rapids and Rachel Forde of Harpers Ferry. Ruth is also survived by a great grandchild, Alec Forde,
of Cedar Rapids.
