Doris Leona Ott

Doris Ott, 42, of Oelwein, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at her home after a two-year illness with cancer.

A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, with the Rev. Allen Schmitt officiating.

Burial was at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. The Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home of Oelwein handled arrangements and held visitation Monday, Aug. 9.

The Chekal Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson also will hold visitation Tuesday, Aug. 10, from 3-8 p.m., with a parish scripture service at 7 p.m.

Doris Leona Ott was born July 14, 1957, at Decorah, the daughter of Leo Herman and Catherine Bonfilia (Hageman) Ott.

She attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Elementary School in Spillville and graduated from Turkey Valley High School in Jackson Junction in 1975.
Doris graduated from Northeast Iowa Community College at Calmar in 1976 and moved to Oelwein in 1977. She was a legal secretary for the Mose O'Brien Law Firm and then for the Ron VanVeldhuizen Law Firm.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein and St. John Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson.

Doris enjoyed family and friends, camping, bowling, softball, pool and performing with "Tootie and the Fruitcakes".

Survivors include her mother, Catherine Ott of Fort Atkinson; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Roger and Judy Ott of Fort Atkinson, Linus and Bernice Ott of New Albin, and Dennis Ott and Alan Ott, both of Fort Atkinson; three nieces, Christie Ryan of Maple Grove, Minn., and Jaci Ott and Karisa Ott, both of New Albin; two nephews, Keith Ott of Ames and Kevin Ott of Dallas, Texas; one great-niece, Nicole Ryan of Maple Grove, Minn.; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and many special friends in Oelwein.

Doris Ott was preceded in death by her grandparents and by her father, Leo Ott who died in 1995.
